Workforce and Training

The Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County, in collaboration with local and regional partners, work together to provide a robust and dynamic workforce for existing, expanding and new businesses in the Treasure Coast region.  Our Workforce Task Force has been focusing on aligning targeted industry sectors with workforce and training needs to continue building our local talent pipeline.  The three major industries of focus include:

WORKFORCE ASSISTANCE

CareerSource Resource Coast is a private, non-profit, Florida corporation with a Board of Directors consisting of private business, economic development and education representatives, community and state agencies, and elected officials. Members of the Board represent the diversity of businesses, organizations and trades that operate in the Treasure Coast Region, including St. Lucie County. CareerSource Research Coast is chartered by the State of Florida to create and manage a workforce development service delivery system responsive to the needs of businesses and job seekers. They have a staff comprised of certified workforce professionals offering award-winning programs recognized locally, statewide and nationally.

Training

Indian River State College (IRSC)
Indian River State College’s Corporate and Community Training Institute (CCTI) offers Customized Training for Businesses and Organizations. The CCTI works one on one with businesses to develop, implement and customize on-site training programs tailored to fit the specific needs of their employees; including pre-licensing training; literacy in the workplace; technical training specialists; computer training specialties and manufacturing technologies training.  Indian River State College was the recipient of the 2019 Aspen Prize and recognized as the number one community college in the nation.

Keiser University

The degrees offered by Keiser University are strategically aligned with the needs of Florida’s and the global economies.

St. Lucie Public Schools Career and Technical Education
St. Lucie Public Schools Career and Technical Education offers over 35 Career and Technical Education programs helping students discover their interests and potential career pathways.  The programs offer students the opportunity to achieve industry-recognized certifications, work-based learning experiences, and articulated college credits.  CTE programs help students gain the technical skills and real world experience they need for high-skill, high-wage, high-demand careers and post-secondary educational pathways.  Career and Technical education is offered at all St. Lucie County high schools aligned with our local industry sectors including Allied Health, Engineering, Manufacturing, Marine, Building and Construction, Technology and Business Programs, just to name a few.

TRAINING GRANTS

The CareerSource Florida network offers national recognized training grants to help Florida companies compete and grow.  The grants cover a portion of training expenses with businesses in full control of how, when and where they train their employees. 

  • QUICK RESPONSE TRAINNG GRANT helps fund training for flexible and customized training for new, full-time, permanent employees in high-skill industries 
  • INCUMBENT WORKER TRAINING GRANT helps fund training for existing employees where workers lack needed training and experience skills gaps
  • ON-THE-JOB TRAINING offers employers a 50% reimbursement of employee’s wages while training new employees your way and at your workplace.
