Accomplishments and Initiatives

The past year was a busy and productive one for the EDC. We’ve created and launched a new marketing and communications plan to strengthen our internal organizational infrastructure and branding efforts. We’ve also moved ahead with several business intelligence initiatives and partnership development that are reaping measurable and successful outcomes. Here are some highlights from the past year:

Marketing & Communications Planning

Through the formation of a new Marketing Taskforce, we engaged the services of a marketing and public relations firm to formulate a comprehensive communications and media relations plan, and create a new brand identity for the EDC. Our new logo has been well received by our partners and the public, and new online and printed collateral is in development.

Economic & Marketing Research

  • Community Resource Profile and Target Industry Study. A county profile was prepared by Moran, Stahl & Boyer (MSB), a nationally known site selection and economic development consultant, as an objective overview of area resources available for businesses seeking to locate to the area. MSB’s target industry study evaluated market opportunities, trends and defined target industries that the area should focus on for future growth.

  • St. Lucie Corridor Initiative – Positioning St. Lucie County for Growth. The next step after the target industry study is evaluation of the real estate assets of the County and determine how well they align with the target industry real estate requirements. Any gaps in real estate resource needs are identified and plans put in place to address them. This assures that the County remains competitive in attracting and expanding target industry companies.

This initiative includes the Treasure Coast Research Park, St. Lucie County International Airport, the Port of Fort Pierce and various industrial and commercial properties surrounding the I-95 and Florida Turnpike corridors. The goals are to provide the required real estate in appropriate locations that meet the needs of target industry companies; evaluate pricing strategies and competitiveness of sites with other Florida options; develop a standardized profile that promotes the assets of each site, and define sites for future growth.

Economic Development Strategic Plan 2015-2020

The EDC contracted Stanley Advisory Associates in conjunction with Strategic Planning Group, Inc. to conduct a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis, Economic Growth Summit and development of an Economic Development Strategic Implementation Plan.

Our ultimate goal of creating more, high-paying jobs for residents can only be achieved when our partners are all moving forward in the same direction and working in concert on agreed upon strategies to promote the retention and expansion of existing businesses, as well as attracting new ones to St. Lucie County.
