Opportunity Zones

In 2017, the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act established Opportunity Zones to encourage long-term investment and job creation in targeted communities.  Businesses, developers and financial institutions that invest in these targeted areas can defer or eliminate capital gains taxes through investment in federally established Opportunity Funds which, in turn, invest funds in these designated zones, creating economic opportunity, job growth and housing stabilization.

St. Lucie County is home to four designated Opportunity Zones with one census tract in Port St. Lucie and three census tracts in Fort Pierce.
