Healthcare
Healthcare and Life Sciences is a targeted industry in St. Lucie County, with over 17.5% of businesses in this select industry and 50,000+ employees on the Treasure Coast.
Home to award-winning healthcare providers, Cleveland Clinic and HCA Healthcare, the community is also home to the Florida Research and Innovation Center (FRIC), a state-of-the-art research and development facility focused on advancing innovative translational research, immuno-oncology and infectious diseases, including COVID-19. The FRIC center is the first established facility outside of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Instititute in Ohio.
In 2020, Florida International University merged with Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies and the new combined research facility plans to conduct research in the fields of brain cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, Parkinson’s disease and other memory disorders.
In efforts to continue building the talent pipeline within the healthcare, life sciences, research and development sectors, a Workforce Readiness Taskforce was created. The task force is comprised of stakeholders in the three-county Treasure Coast region bringing together collaboration in economic development, academia, workforce, healthcare and life science companies.
